When you travel to New Zealand you will need to have a current Australian permanent resident visa that allows you to return to Australia from overseas.

This NZeTA can only be used if you are a transit passenger passing through Auckland International Airport to or from Australia or if you are travelling to New Zealand on a cruise. Transit passengers must remain in the transit area of Auckland International Airport.
